100 Tips for Video Editing (Intro)
I remember creating home videos when I first wanted to learn how to make home videos like my dad back in the spring of 2015. I had wobbly footage, weirdly long sequences, and WAY too many transitions. My first video encapsulated every person’s first experience with editing software: a visually chaotic nightmare, like iMovie throwing up a 2-minute-long video of a fishing trip.
I created many videos with the help of my younger brother, everything from challenge videos to superhero videos, comedy sketches, drawing videos, music videos, you name it. This artistic sandbox was where I refined various video production skills to the point that I could work professionally on smaller projects. In 2017, I landed my first client. I worked for hours on end and received less than the state’s minimum wage, but I took this opportunity to learn and develop my skills while being able to pay for more tools in the process. To this day, I’m still thankful for the life coach who I edited my first client projects for.
It’s 2023 now. I’ve completed over 100 projects for clients through Fiverr and a few more through in-person projects and various social platforms, including Youtube and Instagram. I have worked with notable companies, including NetApp, Nova Motors, Phillips, and Donner Music, and I’ve gained new insight into the process with every new project.

The editing world is beautifully chaotic and will leave you feeling on top of the world some days and on top of a caffeine-induced breakdown other days. It’s always new, always changing, and always keeps you adapting. Different puzzle pieces click together all the time, and just when you think you’ve solved the puzzle and have this whole line of work figured out, you find out that the puzzle has a bonus 500 pieces, which makes it even larger than before.
After working on over 100 projects, I want to share some of that insight with you so that you can have some puzzle pieces of your own to start building with (and to also take apart and mix and match to develop your own style later on!). Throughout the next few months, I’ll update this blog with 10 tips in 10 categories of video editing, creating 100 tips to commemorate 100 finished projects and help anyone looking for 100 steps forward.
If you want to follow along, bookmark this blog on your browser, and feel free to check out any of the other current projects going on in the LUN[02] creative system!
